RAVE: Best Buy

I just got my new washer and dryer from Best Buy. I used their online store to order them -- washers and dryers were on sale last week for 10% off (and I waited for the sale!) -- and the process was pretty straightforward.

One gripe was that when I first placed this order last month, a glitch in their delivery system made the first available shipping date nearly a month away. I couldn't abide that, so I bided my time and tried again in a couple of weeks.

When you place your order, you select a delivery date from a little popup calendar on the order page. Pretty standard, I suppose. I chose a four-hour window in which my washer and dryer could be delivered -- 8am to noon. The day before they came, a rep from Best Buy called me to narrow the window to 11:30 to 1:30. Bonus! Instead of having to wait around for four hours, now I had only to wait two.

But super-bonus: on the morning of delivery, the same Best Buy rep called to let me know the delivery guys were running ahead of schedule and could I be available to take delivery at 11? Well, I hadn't planned on being back at the apartment then, but I said I could do 11:15. So, running ahead of schedule myself, I arrived back home at 11:05. The washer and dryer were already unloaded in front of my apartment; as soon as I got there, the delivery guys got crackin' on setting the combo up.

They were fast. Fifteen minutes tops. Fully installed and tested working. The lead guy was a total professional -- fast, competent, courteous. They were both uniformed in Best Buy attire. When the other guy was done with his part of the job, he got the truck ready to roll out.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at how well Best Buy handled this operation. After my last move, I lowered my expectations to avoid another episode of Disgruntled Customer Silently Fumes. But in this case, Best Buy really carried the ball -- they set the bar high for what a delivery service (and really, the whole operation) should aspire to: great products, low prices, and excellent service.

5 stars.

And yes, I just might start doing reviews with some regularity.
