Helping out
I'm all for helping out. So I'm helping out now.
Chris Muir, author of Day by Day, has asked his readers to click on a link to support a cancer research facility. He's asked his readers -- and there are a lot of them -- to do so, so that the site might improve its Yahoo ranking and raise its visibility.
I'm afraid, though, that merely clicking on this link will do nothing for the site's Yahoo ranking or its Google ranking, or any ranking in a major modern search engine.
Modern search engines don't calculate its search results based on traffic anymore. At one time, traffic figured into the algorithms. Now it's based more on who links to who. Long story short: if your site is linked by a lot of other sites, with the right words in the link, your site will be associated with those words much more strongly in the search engines.
If someone is searching for a cancer research center, and he types in "cancer treatment" into Yahoo or MSN or Google, if there are a lot of sites that link to the American Cancer Ablation Center with the words "cancer treatment", then that site will pop up high in the search rankings.
Thus:
If you own a blog, and you want to help out Chris Muir's sister, then post a link to the ACAC on your webpage. That will do FAR more good, across ALL the search engines.
Just cut and paste the following code into your blog:
<a href="http://www.cancerablation.com/">Cancer treatment</a>
Links:
The American Cancer Ablation Center
